I've been trying to install a bunch of different things, and they all seem to be failing, they all start up, but then crash when the actual installation part begins. It will say something like "Preparing to install" then give me an error

heres some of the error messages ive been getting

(installing quicktime)
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

(installing nVidia Driver)
The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched
RCP server is unavailable

(installing Sound Card Driver)
1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime

Does anyone know what might be the problem???

Run the system file checker tool may fix this issue, click your start, run, then type in this with that space in there too; sfc /scannow , and have your XP CD ready to put in.
Also I suggest to check the critical services which should be set to run, such as RPC, which is the Remote Procedure Call. In the control panel click to open Administrative Tools, then open the Services and check the important ones. Some online guides are available to help pick just what services need to be set to start automatically. Here is one such site or do a google search, http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm
