I suddenly can't work with words, excel or publisher. When I try to open them I first get a popup window saying Windows Installer ---Prepairing to Install. Then and error message saying The Patch Package could not a be opened. To verify that it exists and if so contact the product provider. I also get Windows Installer message with Internet Explorer. I tried to work within the microsoft support but I just can't get anywhere there.
I tried to repair office but can't get in. CD will not open either. Reinstalled XP no good. Will someone please help? I have attached a Log from HJT if it will help.

maybe, ask a moderator to move this thread to the Business Applications forum,after you get the hjt read if thats not the fix... is it possible for you to copy/paste the log into this thread too?

Whats the exact text of the error, is it looking for a MSI file? did you try using the msi files to repair the instalation of office?

The text is this: First I receive a pop up Window Installer saying prepairing to install. This is hapening on every opening file or program related to office.
I can open any files that were created using office forms, ie words, excell or publisher.

Then I receive an error message saying: This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vender to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

As for as the Msi Files, I don't know how to do as you told me. My knowledge falls somewhere between a newbee and advance. In some cases such as using the programs leans toward advanced. But in the case of how it works leans more toward newbee.

Would someone please tell how to just uninstall my Office XP program. I decided to do that but I get the same message (patch not found) when I went into add/remove programs.
