Windows Defender

At startup I get a the following message: "Failure to Initialize: 0 x 800106ba Windows Defender Service. Restart computer go to help". I have tried to restore to an earlier date: Dec. 26 and it did not help. I have no idea what this is or where it came from but would like to eliminate it. Can someone advise me?

I would start with a reinstall of the program and see where it gets you :).
I would make sure that defender is still active. And that any other security software is running. Also, how have you made these startup changes? It should not have been through msconfig. It should be from services.msc. msconfig is a trouble shooting utility only!
