Windows Defender

At startup I get a the following message: "Failure to Initialize: 0 x 800106ba Windows Defender Service. Restart computer go to help". I have tried to restore to an earlier date: Dec. 26 and it did not help. I have no idea what this is or where it came from but would like to eliminate it. Can someone advise me?

crsaj, I'm betting the windows defender that would not start up was the beta version. you need to go to the microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
and download the latest version of it. ( I just had the same problem on a friends computer.)
