windows 98 won`t shutdown

can any one help please . I`ve downloaded the shutdown patch for win 98 se but it still hangs when i try to shutdown it gets to screen saying windows is now shutting down and thats it . i tried reinstalling but still have the same problem.

You didn't say if you were running a firewall or not. I had the same problem awhile back. I use ZoneAlarm firewall and it would hang up the Shutdown process. I resolved the problem by shutting down ZoneAlarm just prior to shutting down the computer. I don't know if this will help but it sure solved my problem.
I'll have to agree with rldgolf. After installing the newest version of ZA awhile back I started having problems shutting down every night. After going back to the older version I could shut down properly. I know quite a few a people have had problems with their pc's not shutting down properly after installing the newest version of ZA.
