I had several viruses,shareware,spyware,ect.I tried manually deleted files I did not recognize. I may have deleted rundll32.Not shure.
I purchased McAfee securitysuite to remove viruses. This worked but I cant access control panel items and some other files.How do I restore rundll32.exe without rebooting from factory cd and loosing all my data.I looked for rundll32 and can't find on hard drive or factory cd.Is there something I ca do in DOS.I have little programing knowledge but I can follow instructions very well.I will appreciate any help.Thanks

you may not have deleted it - it may have been infected in such a way that couldn't be 'cleaned' by the virus removal tools you used, so they may have removed the file. go here and you can download a new copy and see what i mean about how the viruses you had may have caused this. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/winfiles.html

Try this:

Using SFC to extract files

1. Go to Start>Run and enter SFC and click OK
2. Check "Extract one File"
3. Enter the file name and click on "Start"
4. In the "Restore from" field enter:: D:\WIN98 [if 'D' is not the letter of your CD-Rom drive, modify appropriately]
5. Click OK

{if you do not have a Windows system CD, try subsitituting c:\windows\options\cabs in the"restore from field"}

>> for rundll32.exe the file should be restored to: c:\windows

>> remember that since you do not have a Win98 CD, evidently, you will need to have

c:\windows\options\cabs

entered as the "restore from" path. And you will need to have cab files at that location.

I downloaded the rundll32 zip file from spywareinfo.com. I can't open the file because windows can't find rundll32 which is required to open it.How do I unzip without rundll32? :confused:

You will need a .zip utility such as WinZip. Here is a trial version:

Wouldn't this be easier as suggested by Rollin' Rog?
