I am a volunteer network administrator for a small private grade school. I’m running into some problems with a Windows 2000 file server we have had donated to us. I’ve had a lot of experience with NT server but limited experience with W2K. We have all XP pro workstations.

I’m hoping that if I list the symptoms we are having, someone will be able to point me in the right direction to find some answers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Here are the symptoms:

1. Login is very slow. It takes a few minutes for users to login. This happens on every user – even administrator.

2. Network browsing is very slow. After a few hours of being logged in, you cannot browse the file server at all. You have to logoff and login again to get it to work. Even after doing this, network browsing is very very slow.

Thanks for your help.

Todd
