Hi All,

I have a windows 2000 pro machine that restarts just before the log in screen.

Tried to restart it in safe mode and the same thing happens.

I have not seen any error messages.

I have booted from the install cd but no sure what do in the repair section?

Hi and welcome to TSG.
Boot from Cd.
At 1st screen choose Set up Windows Installation. [not repair console]
2nd screen choose F8 accept agreement.
3rd screen choose Repair Windows 2000 Installation..by pressing [R]

Seems to be fine now.

What could have caused it?

Hi Could be any number of reasons..or just a clitch.
Are you running up to date Anti-virus..Spyware program.
Any maintenance..Defrag hard drive etc.

I'd definitely run Scandisk on this hard drive.

If it's ntfs which I sure hope it is, the utility is checkdisk, not scandisk.

the machine runs the latest nortons but is not really used for internet browsing.

running checkdisk now.
