Windows 10 takes 10 minutes to boot up on my dual boot PC

Hi and thanks in advance for any help.

I have Windows 10 on a dual boot machine along side Windows 8. Windows 8 boots up fine and is nice and quick but Windows 10 takes an exorbitant amount of time to load.

What happens is that it starts normally and shows most, if not all the desktop icons, but then all the icons go white and it sits there for about a minute before the icons start showing up properly, one at a time.

Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong or suggest how I can investigate the problem?

I'm so tired of waiting for it.

What I've tried is checking what is in the startup sequence, but there's nothing weird there.

Both Win8 and Win10 are on normal Sata drives of the same speed.

Thanks again.

Perhaps the hard drive for Win 10 is beginning to fail, and Windows has to re-read it to load the icons correctly
In simple words: This process may be too much for your computer to handle. What is your RAM?

Wouldn't there be some troubleshooting steps that would be helpful first? We don't want users to run out and buy new hard drives before at least testing them or other possible causes of the issue.
