Hello everyone! This is my first post on the site, hope you can help me out.
Have a problem that just developed....after XP comes up on my Dell Laptop Windows Installer starts up just after the Desktop displays on the screen.
- The Desktop displays as normal and then a window opens, Windows Installer attempting to install WordPerfect. A second window then opens asking for the product CD to be inserted into the CD drive. (WordPerfect was part of the software supplied with my pc but was never fully installed by me) I attempt to cancel which just starts the process over again. The only way to stop the process is to do a CNTL, ALT, DELETE using task manager to end the process. The pc then runs normally.
- In an attempt to correct this I used add/remove to un-install WordPerfect even though I had never gone through a full install of the product. The product un-installed successfully and I re-booted to see what happened. Again Windows Installer fired up, this time attempting to install Sonic Manager. As before the only way to stop this process was using Task Manager.
- The only changes I had made just before this problem started was to install the latest version of JAVA and ADOBE along with two Windows security updates, all of which appeared to go smoothly.
- Earlier today I attempted to use System Restore to go back a few days before the problem started to see if that would take care of the problem. The restore worked fine but Installer is still starting after the machine comes up.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreicated. Please keep in mind that I am not a pc heavy weight by any stretch.
