I aqquired a PC off freecycle at the end of last year. With help in this topic:
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/526181-unknown-computer-wont-boot.html
I got it to boot up, revelling windows 98. Unknown territory.

I have added 128mb RAM to it giving it a total of 192mb. I would like to network it up to my network which has given me no end of problems.

I had an ethernet card floating about, chucked that in (in a PCI slot of course) and it asked for drivers. I got them off d-link's site, didn't work.

Then just, I had an idea. I have a netgear wireless PCI card with a CD. Installed that, after I installed the card itself, it asked for the widnows 98 CD. Obviously, with it being given to me, it didn't come with one. I don't have any spare as the whole house is Windows XP.

I just want to hook this up to the net and hopefully eventually network it to the other PC's. I heard about NETBIOS etc...

Could someone please help me get this thing to be friends with some form of NIC and make it share files/folders when it does work?

Thanks
Jack

Jack,
When you plug the 98 machine into your network, can you get on the internet or is it not visible on your network? The reason I ask is the default network names in 98 and XP are different so they will not be on the same network until that is changed. XP is MSHOME and 98 is WORKGROUP.

It won't even install a network apater. That's my problem. i can't even get to that stage.

My workgroup name is HILLVIEW (the name of my house) so neither of those.
