My PC (PIII 500mhz), is running windows 2000 and it seems to take an eternity to boot-up. I know that its no mean machine but it shouldn't take this long to start up. The progress bar gets to about half-way and then seems to freeze for about 5-6 minutes, and there is no disk activity. Any suggestions?

First run spybot or ad-aware with updates. See if you still have the problem. Is the computer connected to a network or was it at one time?

Check device manager for any yellow or red marks.

also do you have anti virus software installed as it usually scans the root of your system on startup but still shouldn't take that long.
Any newly installed hardware or software?
if so uninstall it and then reboot and see if that sppeds it up any?
Hope this helps ya

Right click on the hard drive and go to properties, tools, check now, Check "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors", click on Start.

If all goes well there, look in Control Panel, administrative tools, event viewer and see if you can find any problems there.
