Hi there,

I need to build a lan with 3 systems and a hub, no internet!

System 1:

Windows XP Pro
with Service Pack 1 installed

System 2:

Windows XP Pro
no Service Packs installed (Purposely)

System 3: (Laptop)

Windows XP Pro
no Service Packs installed (Purposely)

Neywork Hub:

5 ports 10/100 hub

I tried using the wizards but i still cannot see other computers in the same workgroup from any system.

It is all fine hardware wise for sure. I tought that manually configuring it will be easier and probably better! Can some one pls send me the steps i need to cover to manually set this LAN. Please note that these systems have multiple users and firewall is installed on only 1 system but it's turned off! I'm always working from the Administrator!!

Thanks

1) On each computer create user accounts that match the user names and passwords used to log in on the other systems.
2) Install File and Printer sharing
3) Install client for MS networks, and set as default
4) give each computer a different name
5) put each computer in the same workgroup
6) Share a resource, and set permissions
7) Give each computer a static IP (192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.3)
8) Give each computer the sane subnet (255.255.255.0)
