Dear all

I have an XP Home PC currently requiring some attention. It boots up to the "safety menu" constantly and provides the menu of safe boot, network boot, etc. Once I choose safe mode boot, this then continues, but once it gets to the initial screen with "safe mode" in each corner (after showing the XP splash screen), with the mouse ready and active, the hard drive stops dead and does nothing with a black screen. I left it for a good 15mins, and still nothing. Every option in the F8 boot menu does the same thing!

Anyone have any ideas what I can do about this? I have tried using an XP boot disk, which works but then lose the C drive contents, which I would like to rescue if possible.

The client apparently thinks it could be a virus; which I tend to agree.

Many thanks, Mike  :(
