i am beginnig to feel real stupid, i have a W98 machine here, i have tried everything, i can't find or get rid of WIN MIN and it or something else keeps redirecting IE to find-more or find-everything.

i have run everything on it, Adaware, Shredder, HiJack, everything that always normally works.

I run Hijack this. tell it to delete the entries, and they come right back. I also have an entry in trusted sites Http://*.public.winupdates.com, i have asked hijack to delete these in both normal and in safe mode, they come right back.

any other ideas will be greatly appreciated

vcsystem.exe is a trojan

Start by running this online virus check and see if it is detected and removed.

Then, run HJT and remove

Then, post back another log.

(confirm that the entire log is being posted. The last entry looks suspicious, but unsure as to whether you cut if off as part of the copy/paste)

that is the entire log, i have run trendmicro, bitfinder, symantec online, as well as scanned with the current onboard NOD32.

I have run spybot search and destroy, adaware with the plug in, spyware blaster, they will find it, delete it and it comes right back..

i have gone to the regitry, deleted the file manually, they come right back, i have done it in both safe and normal mode.

they keep coming back, even if the machine is not on the network.

do we have something new out there?????

Now, (just in case), restart to safe mode, run HJT and delete

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.public.windupdates.com

Reboot

If all this stuff reappears, run HJT again, Config button, Misc Tools, Select "List also minor sections:, Generate Startuplistlog and post back the log.

You need to repost your Hijack This log. You left out the list of running processes somehow!

That is all that there is, i have checked and double checked, that is the entire list.

Also i have run so many differant virus scans, including trendmicro. ABSOULUTELY NOTHING SHOWS UP ON ANY SCAN FOR VIRUSES OR TROJANS, i have run checkes for trojans and spyware, at this point, i think i will zero fill the drive and rebuild it.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer then go to View > Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab and make sure "Show all files" is ticked and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click "Like Current Folder" then click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\mstask.exe

****Note Do not delete the mstask.exe file that in in the C:\Windows\System folder. It is the legit windows file. The one in the Windows folder is the hijacker.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

BTW: The reason that your log is not showing the running processes is because you have unchecked the option to "Include list of running processes in logfiles" in Config > Main.
