My operating system is Windows ME V. 6.0.2800.1106, and I have an unusual problem. I have my power settings configured to shut the monitor off after 15 minutes of inactivity and shut off the harddrive after 30 minutes. It recently stopped doing so after 2.5 years (i.e. the screen saver and monitor never shut off and when I move the mouse after more than 30 min. of standstill the harddrive does'nt turn on because it was never off) of complete reliability for no apparent reason. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance :)

I suspect you may hve a Trojan, if you arre a heavy internet server. Have you installed any antispyware programs (Ad-aware;S & D Spybot) and Zone Alarm?? If not install them.
To further improve your knowledge on Trojan, refer to this site under Beginners www.pcstats.com. Hope this helps

Not using the advanced power management features(i.e. suspend, standby, hibernate, etc.) and not using a screensaver can prevent a lot of problems, especially freezes and lockups.

Go into Power Options in the Control Panel and set the power scheme to "Always On" and set everything else to "Never".

Go into Display in the Control Panel and set the screensaver to "None".
