since WAV is lossless, why even mess with files like wma, wmp or ogg ??

i want to do volume leveling for WAV files, but when i burn a disk with volume leveling, i get bad results, the boombox to play the cd has a hard time playing the first two tracks,

i figure i may try burning to a CD-RW and then rip from that disk as WAV files, if possible, and then if i burn a CD-R, maybe it would play okay, and i want to do the whole thing in WAV since WAV is a very good format and is lossless,

but can i rip with WMP or another player in WAV format ?

Most any program will do, even iTunes can rip in WAV. But, as mentioned, WAV takes up an enormous amount of space, especially on an MP3 player. That's where it can become an issue, especially if you have a lot of songs, like I do, over 20,000.

Kind of confused on what you are trying to do, based on several threads you have posted. It seems as though you want the best possible sound, thus the idea of using a lossless format. The question is, where are you ultimately going to play these files. If its just on a portable or a computer, lossless is not really needed. If you want to play on a component stereo, then lossless should be used.

Remember, if your original file is a lossy file (MP3, AAC, WMA, etc), it really does no good to convert it to lossless. Its still basically a lossy file, as its already been compressed. If you want to make a good rip, I would use EAC and use LAME to make an MP3 file.

I keep lossless files on my computer, but just for archival purposes. I treat that as the master file. If I want to make a CD, I use those files to make a CD. I use FLAC, in order to same some space.

Lists the types of music files in which you can rip CD tracks. By default, the available options are Windows Media Audio, Windows Media Audio (variable bit rate), Windows Media Audio Lossless, and MP3.

the above is from the help area of WMP, but does anybody know how i can rip in WAV ?

Are your source files from the original CD?

I thought I read somewhere in one of your posts that you converted a WMA file to lossless; and you've been working off of these files, WAV files converted from lossy files.

WAV files,

is normalization and volume leveling the same thing ?

i have audacity and there is a normalization option to set to -3 dB, how does that work ?
Should be.
how does that work
Does it matter 'how' it works?

will try EAC,

why is the audacity setting at -3 dB ?

is there a way i can change it ?

all i am trying to do is create a cd that has volume leveling that will actually play well in a cd player, without much loss,

most of the time my volume leveled cds play lousy, especially the first track,
