After I read all of the threads in a topic I mark them read but yet they are not marked as read. If I re-open the forum and hit the refresh button then the threads will be indicated as read.
I strongly suspect it is my machine but I have repaired IE.5, flushed cache, removed cookies, run the usual AdAware, Spybot and NAV says I haven't any virus. What might be happening?
I notice that the Alexia(sp) needs to be downloaded--again after I repaired IE. This always happens and I don't know if there is a connection. After posting this, I will download and install that Alexia again for the umpteenth time and then come back of try the above as an experiment. I will report what I find. As usual, TIA.

Alexia was not the problem. I have now re-installed it and while I was doing that I remembered that the odd question I raised was happening before then. Funny, but when I came back to post this, I had to hit refresh to even see the above post. It was like I had not even raised the question. This is only an inconvenience and I don't really mind doing the extra steps but it is something that I should not be having to do!!

IE is loading the page from a cache. Hopefully, from its own cache and not from your ISP's cache server.

First, try changing the settings in IE>Tools>Internet Options>General Tab>Settings button. Under "Check for newer versions of stored page," whatever's checked now, check any of the options except "Never." Click OK and OK again. See if IE then loads a current page. If not, go back and try one of the others.

If playing with those settings doesn't improve things, then it may be your ISP has a cache server that's not working quite right.

If you're referring to "Alexa" as what you're having to constantly reinstall, be advised that it is considered spyware. Complete explanation about what it tracks is on this page. If you use Spybot and/or Ad-Aware, both will remove Alexa unless you tell them not to.

Miz: Many thanks for your response. I have "NEVER" checked but only because of some article I read some days ago that having never checked would save the user the time(seconds maybe?) for the computer to perform that function. Like an unknowing idiot, I changed to never from "every visit". I have just changed it back and I feel sure I won't be bothered with this any more!!:D
Alexa is something else. I will study that info in the link you provided in more detail later. I knew Alexa was supposedly spyware but why does MS show this in Windows Update. I have installed that little jewel sooo many times. So, if in the future WU shows that it needs to be installed, I'll just ignore it. Right??
This is as close as I have ever come to, knowingly, installing anything associated with Alexa.

hewee, your reply is appreciated also but I think I recall trying that and it still would not work because of what I had done above some time ago.

BTW, I am NOW going to find out if the change above worked:p
