Hi,
I run windows vista ultimate, Whenever I reboot and reach the login screen, I can neither use my mouse or keyboard
but when I shutdown and then turn back on it is working just fine!!!
Why can't I reboot? Help me please, It was working fine when I was using Windows XP!

I have a similar problem.
The vista mouse (USB) works fine
the keyboard (USB Acer KU-0355)make a "click" sound (just like when I had a keyboard buffer overflow.... many moons ago)
everything is recognise OK in the system (no yellow marks or what so ever)
drivers have been verifed OK
I have tried a PS2 keyboard... same thing
I have tried all the USB ports.... same thing
but I can use all the keyboards when reaching the BIOS
and USB is OK in the BIOS

????

any suggestions is welcome
thank you

to answer your question,
I have USB speakers,
USB mouse,
USB keyboard
and 2 front panel USB free
and 1 back panel USB free
but look what I found...(apparently login to "techsupport guy" brought me luck)

ok, here what did the trick for me...
panel control,
ergonomical options,
keyboard easier to use,
uncheck everything
(I have translated the steps because the O/S is in a foreign language... so feel free to correct my expressions)

thank you... and have a great day

hi please pay heed to the driver option and also how many devices are trying to access memory on restart which is different than cold boot this can be a problem if ie speakers are addressing the memory and your mouse etc are queued this is not a full explanation just a pointer but i would try uninstalling all usb drivers and check for updates on chipset etc it cant hurt and may well solve your problem

ThePrestige1995:
Was this a clean install, or upgrade from xp to vista?

Which vista? Which service pack?

Do you have the latest motherboard chipset drivers? If an OEM computer, which brand & model?

The USB drivers may not be compatible with Vista. I hate "why" questions.
No offense.

Which mouse & keyboard did you have connected when you installed Vista? If NOT USB devices, please describe events.

Do USB devices, such as flash drives work in the USB ports to which you have the mouse & keyboard connected?

Which motherboard? Please provide a support page.

Do you have a flash drive that is bootable? If so, try booting to it, with the flash drive in a port currently occupied by your USB mouse.

Then, try booting to it, with the flash drive in a port currently occupied by your USB keyboard.

Try booting to Windows Vista DVD. Do your mouse & keyboard work?
