I've had my Dell 8250 for 2 years now. Upgraded RAM from 256M to 512M. And just replaced the DVD-ROM drive with a new LiteOn 16X DVD Burner. Was impressed with how easy Dell makes it to remove and re-install components.

Here's my question: My other drive "E" is listed everywhere in my PC this way: HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8481B Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer is of this drive? (...and any other knowledge you might have about the quality and track record of this drive, . . .but mainly just: who made it? )

Thank you.

OK, thank you. I'll go see what I can find on a Google search of them and their products.
About LG electronics.

4 years ago, i bought a Kmart bluelight computer that
was actually made by 'LG computer'. It turned out to
be one of the best computers i have ever bought and
low priced ($350). The computer still runs strongly
today.

The point i am making is when i went to contact LG
about 2001 to see if there were any upgrades, ect.,
i found out LG went out of business.

The LG today, i do not know if that is the same company
or a different computer. I thought i read somewhere
LG was somehow connected to Goldstar, which seems to
be making better products lately. I have read many
times LG products today,cell phones,optical drives,etc.,
are always getting high reviews in consumer magazines.
