It very much depends on how much you are prepared to spend and to a great extent how careful your son will be with the laptop. BY that I mean, that some youngsters pay little attention to the careful handling and correct use of a laptop.

They are generally speaking delicate and do not take kindly to being roughly treated.

Addtionally as I am sure you know, they do not like being used on a soft surface, where air vents are not completely clear. The kiss of death for many is being used on such as the duvet, whilst in bed.
THIS is particularly true of gaming laptops, where, when gaming, the video chip and CPU can run extremely hot.

This may well be all known to you, and if so I apologise for such detail.

To deal with the actual question, from the aspect of expense, you are looking at something in the region of £1000 Minimum to upwards of £2000 GBP

My recommendation is
1. Ensure the laptop has a separate graphics chip and NOT graphics integrated in the processor
2. Decide on the size of the screen display
3. Decide on if you want Intel or AMD system
4. You need SSD drive NOT a spinning old type hard drive

This will help in addtion to the reviews you linked to

Many are more demanding than SIMMS4

This one would be ideal for SIMMS4 and other more demanding games

You can buy cheaper to run Simms4. but unless you are restricted in cost, then be careful of going for the minimum system to meet SIMMS4 requirements.

Based on the recommended system specs for The Sims 4 most of the computers in these so called guides are an overkill. It is rediculous to spend $2000 US to play this game. Of course, if he wants to play more demanding games that is different. It all comes down to how much money you want to spend. Just make sure you don't spend too little and get a laptop that plays The Sims 4 poorly.

The Sims 4 System Requirements
I have already sent the link to the system requirments

Also with respect I said

and many of the ones that meet ONLY the base requirements would not be classed as

a gaming laptop

and perhaps more importantly, those that meet only base requirements have graphic chips that whilst they will handle Simms4 would be a disappointment to many of the teenagers in todays world and the screen capability would also leave many disappointed.

I also said

Of the three suggested MSI Katana GF66

Great spec + has a full warranty period rather than the 90 day cover that the open box/ex display have, I would howver suggest that you take a good look at the Product reviews at the same link, some good, some helpful in that they suggest ways if improving cooling etc.

Best that I can muster is the MSI Katana GF76 12UE here

Chose the above because of the 17" 144Hz screen and 1TB SSD, the latter to which I would create a separate partition on for storing data to, the slightly less expensive 512GB SSD version may also work for you if you already have a USB external HDD for saving data to.
Indeed and on my first reply
I suggested the GF66 with the 1TB NVME - PCIe drive
and the 12th Gen CPU

however as you say for not a lot more you can have the
  • Screen size - 17.3 Inch Full HD 144Hz Screen
Good find

Indeed you did and was the very reason why I seconded your suggestion :)

Gaming on the 17" screen version would be better though.
I broke my mom's laptop years ago when I was using it for gaming and it was a good quality laptop that was shock proof, so be careful.

Having asked for advice and it being offered to you, YOUR response would be greatly appreciated
I am a big fan of Lenovo laptops when it comes to gaming. I checked the five options which are mentioned in the link you shared in your thread. For me your best option is "Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3".
I hhink you can consider the thread DEAD

Sims 4 is a life simulation single-player game that needs competent hardware configurations. A player controls the management and creation of characters which are possible only with sharp graphics. For this purpose, your laptop needs powerful dedicated graphics cards. A stable internet connection is needed only at the time of installation. A laptop with a powerful CPU and GPU will help to run this game efficiently.
