If it's a new computer and old graphics card the graphics card might not fit. What is the make and model of the card? There is only one AGP slot and it is closest to the CPU.

If you could supply the name of the Compaq one of us could probably look it up. The AGP slot, as norton said, will be the closest the CPU. It will also be a different color than the other slots, and usually brown. A lot of brand-name computers still don't ship with AGP slots. In that case, you could either settle for a PCI graphics card which will have a huge bottleneck (because the PCI bus operates slower) or you could call up Compaq and see about exchanging the machine with something that is a little more upgradeable...Of course that would cost more.

If you have an AGP slot, then you should be all set...Unless the graphics card is an older one. In that case it might be made to operate at a different voltage. There are notches in the AGP slot and in the card itself that will line up when the card is plugged in. The pattern is different for cards rated at different volts. Basically, you'd need a newer AGP card if the one you have doesn't fit.

Using the link provided, look under the System Features bar and you will see that it says Video is PCI Express, not VGA.
