Where's my compass on Google Maps?

On my phones and tablets theres a compass that lets you change the orientation of your map but as of late I'm not seeing it on my PC? This is quite frustrating because often my map is off.

How can I add or restore the compass?

Find the compass icon in the lower-right corner of your street view.

Thanks.... I see it in the street view, but when I go back to the map view it goes back to the way it was before I straightened it out in street view. How can I rotate the map directionally when in the MAP view?
