For the first time today, I got a message that ctfmon.exe wants to get on my startup list. I use Mike Lin's Startup Monitor and I checked 'No' so that it wouldn't kick in at startup time. I thought that this was the best thing to do since I've never seen ctfmon.exe before. Afterwards, I go many messages saying that things have to close because my CFT Loader wasn't working etc.
The only new thing that I did yesterday was to download and install the latest updates from Microsoft. I understand that ctfmon is connected to Microsoft Office (?)...I do have Microsoft Office 2000 that I have used for years. I did a search for ctfmon.exe and found the following listings: ctfmon.exe C:\windows\system32\ctfmon.exe and CTFMON.EXE-OE 17969B.pf C:\windows\prefetch pf file ...
Would it be safe for me to allow ctfmon.exe to go on the startup list? Could it be a virus?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have Office XP and ctfmon has always been checked on my startup tab in msconfig.
It, avgcc(AVG), and SysTray are the only ones checked on my startup. I wouldn't worry about it being on the tab.

Thanks. But, I'm not sure what to do...I have never seen ctfmon.exe before and it's not on my startup list right now... Should I allow it to startup as it seems to want to do or should I remove it, if so, how?
