ive just bought an mp3 player. i started putting my cds onto my pc to transfer over, they are all about 40-50megabytes. however when i went on line to download some albums they're all much bigger, even albums ive already got from cds at 40m are 100m on line which means i cant fit as many on my mp3 player.

Bitrate is what determines file size, the higher the bitrate, the higher the quality and bigger file size. It sounds like you are using 128 kbps when you are ripping your CD's. But there are Mp3 bitrates up to 320 kbps which would be a bigger file size.

See what the bitrate is on the files you are downloading. Where are you getting these files from?
