I have an older Acer Aspire With Pentium75, win 98, 32 FP EDO ram, and a 1 GB harddrive (I plan to upgrade this soon).

I want to upgrade the 14.4 modem on it and I'm not sure what will work on it.

PS Would an external modem work without tying up system resources?

A P75 should have ISA ports. See if you can find a US Robotics ISA 56K modem, which in my opinion is one of the best. Since it is a "hardware" modem, it does not rely soley on the processor like new Win Modems do. I have had one running on my old 486 for years with no problems.
