WEP and WPA, are these two technologies encrypt the signal of a computer sending out and receiving or only prevent other computer from coming into the network? If it's not encrypting the signal then what's protecting the packets or information once the computer sends out to the open space before it reaches the destination computer?

Any information on this appreciated.
