I have a HP Pavillion and had a problem with a lost program that came bundled with the original purchase. I had to a System Recovery and it worked fine with one exception. Trying of play Audio CDs I get the message "Waveout format not supported" How can I get my sound back or support the Waveout format?

try control panel.admin tools,services,scroll down to windows audio,make sure it is enabled if not double click to enable

I did what you recommended and found one slot that had three options, automatic, manual and disabled. The settings it is on is automatic.
