The wallpaper I have had on my W98 PC for years suddenly disappeared and I can't restore it, even though I have the original photo it was made from in one of my PC's files. When I go to Control Panel > Display > Wallpaper and Browse for the photo, I can find the folder it is in, but can't select the photo from the file because the 'Type of File' box can't be changed from 'Wallpaper', and the photo requires a gif 'Type of File' to show in the selection box. I can't remember how I got past this difficulty when I first used the photo as the source for my wallpaper.

Can anyone suggest a way to get my wallpaper photo back?

Have you by any chance turned off Active Desktop?

Right click anywhere on your desktop and Click Active Desktop and then click View As Web Page to add a check mark
