I just reinstalled Windows XP Pro using a reinstallation CD provided by Dell. Everything proceeded as I expected from advice here in Tech Guy. Windows restarted, getting me to the black Windows XP startup screen where the little blue things race from left to right , except the little blue things have not shown up. In their usual place, for over one hour, it says simply, Please wait... How long should I wait? And what will happen if I strike a key or shutdown?

I turned off the machine and started it up successfully. The reinstall worked, because my XP version is now service pack2 instead of 3 as it was before. I had hoped this would get rid of my main trouble, which is a rogue trojan called Antimalware Doctor. I have been unsuccessful in getting rid if it. It has overwritten or disabled many functions. I can't find it on the hard drive and I can't delete it through the control panel. My computer shut down because Windows detected a serious problem and closed to prevent more serious trouble. It also had these two lines(among others):

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
