I have an VPN issue with my computer. I do some work at home so the IT at my work set me up with VPN which connects to a LINUX box at work, it worked fine the first night. I left my computer at home on all night, and the following night I couldn't connect any more. It is as if the network isn't there, furthermore when I try to get online my computer tries to connect through a modem. A dial-up box shows up on my screen and is trying to connect to the internet thru a modem, I don't have a modem I have a NIC card. I go to my daughter's computer which is almost identical (XP as well) and I can connect just fine. Please advice. Thank you in advance.
If they are doing it based on your IP address at home and you do not have a static IP address this could be your problem. Some VPN's are based on the remote hosts IP address.
Many (most?) VPN's disable local LAN connections when you connect to a remote site. Did you disable the VPN connection and see if that restores your access?
I have a client that I have a VPN link to, and when I connect to their network, that machine disappears from the network, and I don't have any Internet access, just the connections to the remote network. When I disconnect the VPN client, normal operation is restored.
