on our windows Me machine, we were getting 'problem with shortcut messages at startup. also 'error loadingBXXS5.dll
we use NAV and it says system is clean.
wentr tto trend micro on line virus scan, it found 104 bad files. as it scanned, NAV would open and say it fixed a particular problem. then i'd click OK and Trend would resume scanning. when it got done it reported it could not access several of the detected bad files. when i clicked 'remove' it reported it could not because they were in use.
i think i got rid of most of the 'problem with shortcut' files (which all ended in a lnk file extension) by going into windows/all users/start up menu/programs/startup, and into windows/start menu/ programs/ startup, and deleting anything that looked like it was related.
but a couple keep coming back. am trying swat it! now to try to remove trojans, but is there any other way to prevent and clean?
thanks

These can be removed manually using HijackThis. Download HijackThis from http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe & unzip it into it's own, permanent folder, not a temporary one. Start HJT & press the scan button. When the scan is finished the scan button will change to save. Save the log to a text file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET.
