I'm not sure what is going on, I took a screen shot of what is popping up and can't seem to get it to stop popping up.

I do not know where it came from, what caused this, I don't download a bunch of **** on my PC. My brother did however download the free trial of WOW and I am not sure if this brought it on or if something else did or not.

Here are the screen shots which are attached to this post.

I do not know what to do to fix it, and I am stuck. It keeps coming up every few minutes, or after a while of my brother playing the WOW game it will boot him out and then the first screen shot will pop up.

I have the avast free antivirus running now, a full scan.

Also, I noticed in the task manager that it had a file named mike148.exe and not a clue where that came from.

Any help would be appreciated!!! :)

Ugh, what a great Christmas present huh? LOL

I just wanted to update that I scanned my PC and it says that it didn't detect any viruses of any kind. So I don't know what is going on. If anyone knows anything, please let me know. Thanks! :)

Merry Christmas Everyone! :)

Might not be a Virus or Trojan, but anti-virus does not always detect ad-ware... which is what that looks like. There are a few good spyware/adware removers out there, I prefer Spybot Seach & Destroy (and it's free) :up:

I went ahead and did the following scans:

HiJackThis
DDS
GMER

They are attached as *.txt files. Also, before I started, I went ahead and logged off computer and came back and the following popped up when I came back onto the PC:

Not sure if that helps at all or anything. But yeah, that popped up as well.

Also the screens shots that I showed in my first post, keeps happening still. I don't know what is going on, where I got this adware or malware but it is driving me nuts! lol

Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it! :)

Delete any existing version of ComboFix you have sitting on your desktop
Please read and follow all these instructions very carefully

Download ComboFix from Here or Hereto your Desktop.
As you download it rename it to username123.exe

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop and run from the desktop and not any other folder on your computer**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection and any script blocking components of them or your firewall before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results" or stop combofix running at all
  • Click on THIS LINK to see instructions on how to temporarily disable many security programs while running combofix. The list does not cover every program. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re enable the protection again after combofix has finished
--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Close any open browsers and any other programs you might have running
Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
If you are using windows XP It might display a pop up saying that "Recovery console is not installed, do you want to install?"
Please select yes & let it download the files it needs to do this
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell us when you reply. Read HERE why we disable autoruns

Please do not install any new programs or update anything (always allow your antivirus/antispyware to update) unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem. If combofix alerts to a new version and offers to update, please let it. It is essential we always use the latest version.

Please tell us if it has cured the problems or if there are any outstanding issues

I tried running the ComboFix, and tried doing it twice and got this error both times after it went through all the stages:

Not sure what is happening? I had the programs that needed to be shut off, off. I also wasn't even touching the mouse when the scan was being ran so that it could do what it needed to be done. I'm not sure if PEV.cfxxe is associated with ComboFix, if it isn't let me know and I'll let it run the scan and again and see if it goes through again however after clicking on the close program that dialogue would disappear and reappear and I would have to press close program again. So I don't know what is going on.

Do you want me to go on with the next few steps, or is there something else you want me to do?

I went ahead and did as you suggested, uninstalled avast and restarted the computer afterwards. Once the PC booted up completely I started ComboFix. It went through all the stages, and once it was getting ready to produce the log it ended up popping up the same "PEV.cfxxe" has stopped working. I didn't even touch the PC or mouse or anything. I don't understand what is going on.

Is there something else we could possibly do?

Actually, after clicking on close program twice when it popped up, I left the ComboFix window alone. I guess it produced the log file after all... Not sure what was happening, ha! Here's the results of what the window showed:

it appears to be spybot causing the problems
It has also interfered & prevented combofix fixing some registry entries./ CF has or should have deleted the remainder of the temp files that were causing the malware problem
uninstall spybot & then run HJT again & we will see if we can fix the entries with HJT

Alright, I went ahead and uninstalled Spybot & Destroy, I only had that just yesterday so that I could do a scan of that and remove whatever it brought up. Sorry about that, I probably should have mentioned that before.

I went ahead and re-ran the HJT, although I noticed that when I right click on the HJT icon to select run as administrator it doesn't have that option like it used to, unless I downloaded the wrong one or something. However, when I just run it, and then go to main menu and then scan and save the log option, it starts to scan and then bring up a message as follows:

However, when I clicked on OK it did continue on with the scan and brought up the log:

I don't mean to double post, however I just wanted to let you know. That I don't know if this is the ieploxer.exe (Internet Explorer) virus that I have been seeing a few posts about on this board, however the strange thing is that I don't use IE, I use Firefox so I am not sure how or why. But every time the window pops up and says it's doing a scan and what not, it opens up every time in a IE browser. I'm not sure if you seen the screen shot in my first post or not. But I'm clueless as to what this is.

I don't know, I am just glad I have someone taking time out of their lives to help me with this because it is definitely driving me nuts. lol

hijack this isn't showing the entries It has trouble with 64 bit computers
lets deal with it this way
Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop
  • Close any open browsers.
  • If your Real protection or Antivirus intervenes with OTScanIt, allow it to run.
  • Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
  • Now on the toolbar at the top select "Scan all users" then click the Run Scan button
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Save that notepad file
If the log is too large to post, use the Reply button, scroll down to the attachments section and attach the notepad file here.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let you know that I ended up leaving all options other than the scan all users alone and as default. Hope that is what you wanted, if there is something missing or needed to be changed please let me know and I'll re-run the scan. :)

Start OTS. Copy/Paste the information in the Code box below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

Code:
[Unregister Dlls]
[Processes - Safe List]
NY -> crossloopservice.exe -> C:\Users\Latour\AppData\Local\CrossLoop\CrossLoopService.exe
[Registry - Safe List]
< Run [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\] > -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
YY -> "dfg49df" -> c:\windows\mike148.exe [c:\windows\mike148.exe]
[Files/Folders - Modified Within 30 Days]
NY ->  5456456z -> C:\Windows\5456456z
[Files - No Company Name]
NY ->  5456456z -> C:\Windows\5456456z
[Empty Temp Folders]
[EmptyFlash]
[Reboot]
The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. CLick the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here .

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.

File c:\windows\mike148.exe not found.

Now this file above, when I had the screen shot that I had provided in the first post come up, I had noticed in my Task Manager that there was a file called mike148.exe in the list, didn't know what it was but I figured it was associated with the iexplorer.exe that was popping up and what not. I just wanted to let you know about that.
