Vga - dvi adapter pins bent

594 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  managed
Guys, so I have a monitor that has only a VGA port and a GPU that doesn't have a VGA port. so, I ended up buying a VGA - DVI or vice versa adapter, and when I was trying to connect the DVI to my pc the connection was very loose and I didn't see any picture. so i ended up pressing it too hard and the 4 pins on the end are bent.
can I fix this? what is the role of those 4 pins at the end? are they necessary for only video output.
Please, any help would be appreciated

You need a DVI-D to VGA not a DVI-I to VGA that you have

What happens if I pull the 4 pins out and use it as DVI-D? I don't need any audio output

I will leave that for someone else here to answer that.
Those 4 pins are the analog video signal pins. They are what provide the connections that VGA monitors need.

A pair of needle nose pliers should be able to straighten those pins, if you are careful.

Those 4 pins are likely connected to something inside that DVI-I connector.
If you pull them out with needle-nose pliers or some other tool, you will likely damage that DVI-I connector and make it unusable.
You should purchase and use a DVI-D to VGA adapter like you were advised to do.

But, even though though they claim to make such a device, the DVI-D is digital only. The 4 analog pins are the pins that VGA requires. I haven't seen a wiring diagram that doesn't use those 4 pins.
That isn't going to fit in this DVI-D in what the OP was trying to do

You will need an active adapter that contains electronics to convert from DVI-D to VGA, like the one here :-

An adapter like the one in your pictures, even if it's for DVI-D, will not work.
