Hii guys, I have a Window 7 Home Premium x64 Laptop with me. It has been 2 years already. Since last few weeks it starts to act crazily. I have already factory restore it three times and still the same. Whenever I want to open a programs it takes like a few mins to open it and it always overheats when I use Chrome athough I have already clean the fans and add some addition cooling fan to the laptop.

Sounds like something is wrong with a memory module, try running a memory diagnostic to see if any errors appear.

have you done diagnostics on your hard drive and memory?
Hi ArthurLiew,

Welcome to Tech Support Guy!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the make and model of the computer we are working on?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, let's see the following.

TSG Information Utility
  • Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe).
  • After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
  • Information about your computer will appear.
  • Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire text here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Task Manager - Resource Usage
  • Right-click the Taskbar and choose Start Task Manager.
  • Click the Performance tab and let your computer run for a few minutes as you normally would.
  • Take a screenshot of this windows and include it in your next reply.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

What I'd like to see in your next post:
  • Make and model of computer.
  • TSG SysInfo log.
  • Task Manager Performance tab screenshot.

You have pretty good hardware in that machine -- no reason you should be experiencing this slowness.

I cannot open the link you gave me. Try directly attaching the screenshot to your post.

Also, there is no need to quote all posts you reply to -- it makes the thread unnecessarily long and hard to read.
Hii here you go :) yea I should not have slowness on my laptop I really have no idea why..:( I have reformat everything 3for 3 times already and still the same :(

Hi, you may have received a corrupt update, either windows (sfc will help here) or more likely our old friend Norton. You can try by disabling Norton and seeing how your computer performs. Let us know how you get on.

Here's the results for SFC :

And here's the results for CHKDSK :

There is as I am sure you know nothing wrong with the system file check or the chkdsk

There is no benefit in quoting back to me my post

Just quote please any particular aspect you wish to mention to me

Jenae raises a very valid point - what may have seemed OK with Norton at first - does not mean it is now- updates to Windows or indeed to Chrome may not sit well with Norton

Many do consider it a very reasonable or indeed good AV however it is known for causing problems and slow performance - especially on 8, but also on 7.

Your first action now is to uninstall Norton - if it is the free edition there is no problem

If it is the paid for edition ensure you have the means to re-install

Use programs and features and then run the uninstall tool
download from here
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

It is vital to run that tool
Then reboot

As protection now install MSE
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/security-essentials-download

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/security-essentials-all-versions

update it and do a quick scan

If it finds anything post the log
If it does not compare performance

This is what I get when I tried to open Norton

Please explain a little more - if you try and open Norton after you have uninstalled it from programs and features - obviously it cannot open as it is not there
Please explain at what stage of the process of uninstalling you are

All I have to work with is what you tell me
I haven't uninstall it I was trying to disable it first and see if that causes the problem. But...I was able to fix the slowness, it was just because of the HDD and Graphics. The HDD partition size was wrong and the graphics settings are all in power saving mode....after I have made changes to it was much better and faster but still it is slow in opening programs, etc..I was also able to fix the Chrome problem which always gives me overheats but Chrome is still very slow at loading....
Good you have done well
I wish you the best of luck with it
Any ideas what gives Chrome slowness?
