I have a fairly new DELL computer, with a 17" Microtek thin screen. For the past two days, I've been getting a vertical yellow strip, about 1-1/2 inches wide, about one third over from the left. It comes on as I boot up the computer. I have WindowsXP.

Why - and how can I get rid of it?

do you have any magnetic source close to the screen like a large speaker? are you using the native resolution setting 'cause if this is a lcd monitor they don't like to go higher or lower. does it stay on after booting up?

It will not be caused by a magnetic field, as LCD screens are not affected by them (they do not use magnetic deflection like CRTs)

If this yellow strip stays on, then I would return the screen under warranty.

If you are first able to try another computer monitor it would eliminate the possibility of the fault being in the Graphics card on the PC.

Thanks for suggesting that I should return the monitor.
Microtek themselves suggested that they send me a new one - mine was evidently defective.
