I've been reading lately that Verizon will get you if you download tons on a DSL account. I have a 768 KBps ADSL account with them and I download A LOT! (Probably close to 30 GBs/month if not more) For instance, at the moment I'm downloading OpenSUSE @ 3701 MB today, and I have two more Linux DVD ISOs lined up to run. The account is 'unlimited' but I don't know about that after what I read

Anyone know anything about them-have any stories about them complaining about people using a lot of their bandwidth?

"...may not use the service to...(n) to generate excessive amounts (as determined by Verizon in its sole discretion) of Internet traffic"

from Verizon's site

what does this mean?

Means that if they want to hose you, you're hosed. I don't believe its any different with cable providers either. My memory is that my Comcast contract provides similar language.

I know Comcast will limit you and tell you that you went over the limit on your unlimited account, but they won't tell you how much the limit is. I imagine Verizon is the same.
i talked to my comcast provider about that and they said with my plan i have unlimited... probly why i pay a arm and a leg each month for it

That's what I'm afraid I'll deal with. Yeah, they say unlimited, but there is usually a point that they don't like and tell you so. For most people this wouldn't be an issue, so they tag it as unlimited. I download a heck of a lot more than most people though, around a gig a day!

Let's see-

I don't know why-all I really have (I guess you call it downloaded) is a few (pause to think...) Linuxes, I guess, which I don't understand... (go into a long drawn out conversation on how my "pet poodle named Randy" died and I have used the computers and "dot coms" to fill the space...(making sure it's in an uneducated manner))

Or act really smart and speak in lingo I barely understand, never mind the idiot Verizon people...

:D

Still mad because I got almost to two gigs of a Linux DVD and I was plugging the tape decks in and knocked out the ethernet to the modem! Lost all that time!

JStergis, have you ever actually talked to Verizon Technical Support?

Don't try to play dumb, they won't understand because they have that down to a science!
Try the 'I KNOW MORE BIG WORDS THAN YOU" approach. It will get you a supervisor in a hurry every time, or they will get you off the phone as quickly as possible.
LOL
