various issues

Not sure if some of these are "bugs" per se but any help would be great, thanks.

It appears the network icon in taskbar is not showing proper strength, perhaps a bug. When clicking it to pull up the network available connections, it shows full strength but in the tray icon it *always* shows half strength.

When I do shutdown via the start menu, it shows as shutting down and power does go off. The odd part is (when AC plugged in and battery is 100%) if I
go turn this on 2 hours later or even less (without AC) battery shows about 85% - 91% level. Why does it lose about 10%-15%? This can't be normal.

Also, is it normal that it takes about 10 seconds to get out of standby or hibernation (sleep mode) once you press the power button to return to windows? The power "start menu" option in Vista is set to sleep

I cannot find any option to adjust gamma in the display. I do not want to lessen the actual brightness of the screen but only lessen the gamma slightly for my better viewing pleasure. I tried using a little (no longer supported, official home page down) software called Gamma Pannel. Its inconvenient because for one, the "hot key" never works and coming out of sleep mode after closing laptop, I have to manually open the gamma panel software and reset the display where I saved it. Anyone know a better method than this?

I did install the official Intel driver for my Sony but believe it or not, it does not allow you to go below 1.0 on gamma, which it is already by default on 1.0 (the least available). Strange.

Perhaps someone can actually explain the best method, best way to *determine* what is the best setting for gamma, contrast and brightness. Of course I understand its a personal preference, but I'm generally asking for feedback to get the view more natural, or accurate if I'm wording this right.

I unchecked "capitalize first letter of sentence" in both Word and Outlook. It resets itself (checked on) again after restarting or rebooting. I'm using Office 2007 Ultimate.
