I have a P4 2600 pc with an Asus P4p800 MB that loses network connection. When I look in device manager it shows the network adaptor with the "?" and says that drivers aren't installed.

If I attempt to reinstall the drivers, the install fails beause windows can't find drivers for the device. When I insert the driver disk for the card and specify the exact inf file for the card it still says it can't find the drivers.

If I remove the ethernet card and reinstall it, when the pc boots up it finds the drivers automatically and works fine until the card dissapears from the system again.

It will work for days, still work after shut downs and restarts and then quit for no apparent reason.

This is the 3rd different brand nic card I've installed in this machine and they all do the same thing.

I'm stumped, any ideas?

It seems unlikely that the nic is a problem anymore.

So it must be something else.

Could a repair of windows help?

Or,
Could the card seat on the mb be a problem? or another physical problem on the mb?
