Hello All--I wonder if I may draw from your vast wellspring of knowledge? ( How's that for sucking up?)
I'm looking to buy a used laptop, but since I've just shelled out almost $10K for a knee operation, (hence the laptop- I'm going to be in bed for a while) money is a little bit tight and I was hoping to spend around $300/400 plus another little, for a wireless setup.
I only plan on using it for the Internet and some racecar data analysis.
So I guess I have multiple questions;
(A)- Can anyone recommend for,or maybe more importantly,against certain brands/models?
(B)- Any thoughts on size, specs, etc?
(C)- Any sites that have the above info on used laptops?
(D)- Is there an easy (read cheap) way to hook this up wirelessly to my existing network? (A D-Link-604 wired cable router with two desktops running Windows Me and XP Home)
(E)- (And finally!)- Any suggestions on where I might be able to buy all this hardware?

Well, thanks for wading thru this long drawn out thing. I hope someone has some ideas.

If web surfing and e-mail will be the primary use of the laptop then everything from an AMD K6 II 500 and up will do. Don't know about racing data, but i assume that's some sort of graph which will not require a lot of video (again , i'm assuming since i never came accross those. My 0-60 is about 9 sec, "certified" by local police :D :D :D)
2. Size, specs already mentioned from AMD K6 II 500 to P3 800-900.
Try to stick with name brands since if the display goes, well at least you should be able to get a replacement.
3. Use the link on this site i.e http://www.googleadservices.com/pag...zXhNHAAA&num=4&client=ca-pub-8168439598877194
or try ebay or pick up the yellow pages and look for used laptops.
4. Cheap way to connect is via 802.11b kits ( pcmcia card and router ) which can be picked from local pc store for as low as $ 40
5. It will take awhile to find it, since 300-400 laptops are not quite that easy to come by. It's not impossible , just be prepared to do a bit of searching.
