Hi All,

A techie told me not to run more than one anti-spyware program on my XP Home SP2 box. Now I am running Webroot Spysweeper. Should I download Microsoft's new beta anti-spyware program or use a combination or what? Spysweeper keeps telling me I don't have any spyware. Is it that good or is it bad that it isn't finding any?

Thanks,
Greg

There is a detailed report of a comparison of anti spyware programs here;http://spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm

I believe that it concludes that a combination of programs would probably be better than using one on its own and finds Webroot and the GIANT program very effective. I don't think the test included the MS version of GIANT, but, while it's free, it may be worth trying.

It is possible that the advice you got relates to having two programs both trying to scan for spyware in 'real time'. If you install two but only allow one to run at bootup, keeping the other for 'on demand' scans, it shouldn't cause too many problems.
