I have a MS disk with Vista on it, but disk is corrupted so the repair function of MS wont see the partition with windows on it

However, booting from a Puppy Live disk - all the files are there ?

Why is this and is there a way to use the chkdsk /r function with Linux or similar to repair any errors so that Vista might boot

Thanks

The Puppy Live disk, like all Linux, Ubuntu live Cd's will see the files related to Windows and is ideal for saving needed files and data to an external device.

To run chkdsk /r on your Vista pc, try the following.
Download ARCDC from Artellos.com.
  • Double click ARCDC.exe
  • Follow the dialog until you see 6 options. Please pick: Windows Professional SP2 & SP3
  • You will be prompted with a Terms of Use by Microsoft, please accept.
  • You will see a few dos screens flash by, this is normal.
  • Next you will be able to choose to add extra files. Select the Default Files.
  • The last window will allow you to burn the disk using BurnDCC
Your ISO is located on your desktop.
ARCDC is compatible with Windows XP and above
