Hey I've got a bit of a problem. I need one more USB space for my webcam to go so i ordered a USB Y splitter 1 male to 2 female and it just arrrived. When I plug something in th left slot it works perfectly but in the right slot it doesnt. I pluggede a blue snowball mic into the other and the red light lit up to show power is going into it but it isnt actually working. So to test its not the mic i plugged it into a usb normally and i worked so i plugged my keyboard into the broken slot and it did the same and lit up but didnt actually work. Can someone please help??

More than likely it's defective. I would send it back for a refund. That said you need a USB hub, and active hub.....which means it has it's own power supply.

What do you mean I need a usb hub and active hub I don't know what they are isnthere any way I can check I have then
There all a little expensive all I need is one extra usb so I got a y splitter
Can I not just refund this Y splitter and get a new one
You can pick one up at your local retail shop for $10....not that expensive.
But would the Y splitter work because it’s just more handy because of the space and the price being like £2
You can.....my guess is that the splitter is passive. Which mean it doesn't have enough power to power 2 devices at the same time. Which is why I suggested an active hub (powered).
Hi, and welcome to TSG.

A cable that just parallels the male and female connectors will not work. You need active electronics to run two USB devices off of one port. Can you provide a link to a web page that is selling what you bought?
In that link I posted....if you click the box where is says sort by.....changed featured to lowest price. Then scroll through.
This is all I can give for it from amazon

All I want is an extra USB port and I’m really confused about what I can and can’t get at the moment and I want it for the cheapest price possible so could you please just send me a link to on that would work (the link you sent me have things like micro usb aswell and y splitters the same as mine so I don’t want to get something wrong again)
You sent me a screen capture, not the requested link to an actual web page that is selling the product and may have a better description.

Judging from the markings on the connectors in your photo, I suspect that your Y-Splitter is only good for powering and communicating with one USB device and only provide DC power to a second device for charging.

Here is a link to the lowest cost USB Hub that plankton23 had in their newegg.com link.

This is for a seller in the USA. You will need to find a local source as I suspect you are not in the USA.

If you are in the UK, one of these USB Hubs may be your lowest cost option:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rcool-Ultra-Slim-4-Port-Black/dp/B01LGIQOZE

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tonsee®-Laptop-Computer-Peripherals-Accessories/dp/B013R3KB3M

Both hubs are powered by the computer to which they are attached. Depending on what USB devices you plug into the hub, you may overload the USB port resulting in it shutting down. If you require higher power for your attached USB devices than what can be provided by the computer's USB port, you will need a hub that is powered from the AC Mains. This seems to be the lowest priced product on Amazon's UK site:

Why is this in Tech News?
I thought it started in another forum. Maybe it got moved by accident?
Why is this in Tech News?
Not sure if someone accidently moved it there but I've moved it to Hardware.
