Dell board, Win98se, I'm trying to install a USB 2 PCI card and everytime I turn the computer back on the monitor hangs up on the "test/this monitor is working" screen.
I have tried both PCI slots available and the same thing happens.
When I pull the card out, the computer boots up fine.

Any ideas?

From what my tech is learning it's looking like my Dell motherboard was made in mid-1999, and that it's just a few months too old to support full speed USB 2.0, having been made when 2.0 was supposed to be only 240mb/sec instead of 480.

But still, the monitor hanging up on the test screen is a new one on me, symptom-wise.

You need the drivers for the card to use USB 2.0 with W98SE. Of course, with a Dell machine, who knows why it doesn't work! :D

In the BIOS, have you reset the ESCD in the BIOS? Here's a page talking about the ESCD: http://www.dewassoc.com/support/bios/escd.htm

FWIW, I've used a number of USB 2.0 boards with the drivers in W98SE machines successfully, but it's been a while since I have tinkered with W98.
