running windows 10 home, I have a Scandisk 32 Gb cruzer blade USB storage device 3.1/3.2 (red)
I know I have files on it but haven't used it for a while, when inserting it into my Acer Aspire laptop's USB 3 port the drive isn't recognised, when I go into disc management the drive is there showing one 4Mb FAT healthy partition and one 28.66 RAW Gb healthy partition, I am unable to do anything with the 4 Mb partition, everything is greyed out, when clicking on the 28 Gb partition there is an option to format, when I try to do this I get the error message "The system cannot find the file specified" there are 3 format options, NTFS, FAT 32 and exFAT, same problem with all, clicking on help does not show anything,, all help and advice on recovering this drive will be appreciated

You should've formatted that Sandisk 32 GB(28.67 GB) USB thumb drive in the NTFS file system before you stored any files in it.

What's the approximate total capacity of the files you have stored in it?

From what I can see in your image, it's showing 100% free space, and there doesn't appear to be any files stored in it.

Have you tried inserting it in a different computer to see if it does the same thing?

thank you flavallee, drive was formatted FAT32 and they were music files to be played through my car music system, FAT 32 is the only option my car will recognise, have tried on another laptop and the car, not recognised on either

I don't see FAT32 in the "File System" column in your image, so something must've happened to that thumb drive.

Hopefully, you have a backup copy of those music files elsewhere.

I'll leave you with the others here who may have a solution for you.

Good luck.
