Uploading video off Sony DCR-DVD105

I am trying to download video taken on my Sony camcorder, it does not have a memory card only records onto mini disk's. I bought a cord that plugs into the camera and is a USB on the other end. When I plugged it into my MacBook Pro laptop(10.10.5 OS X Yosemite 2.3 GHz) it killed the battery and shut down my computer. Do I have to use a desktop? What are my option for getting the footage off of the disks? Photos attached of all items.

As an alternative and assuming you have a DVD-ROM drive, most of them support 8cm disks.

Model of the cam?

And assuming the cam records onto disc, you could transfer the video using disc. If the laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, you could simply get an external unit.

Hi! Thank you both for your replies! Unfortunately, my DVD drive is broken. Should I buy this, External DVD Drive, TSV USB 2.0 Transmission Slim Portable External DVD CD +/-RW Writer/Burner/Rewriter ROM Drive?
