Upgrade Options?

2638 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Macboatmaster
Have a old but vital HP Pavilion 8750 running Windows ME.
(CPU Intel Celeron 633 MHz, Chipset Type Intel 810, Processor Socket 370)

What is the fastest CPU I can pop into this machine and still run installed ME system?

Does it have to be Celeron? Do I have any upgrade options??

Thanks!

Forget it is the best advice
Any upgrade is not worthwhile even if you could find a CPU
The processor as indeed you have posted is
https://ark.intel.com/products/27192/Intel-Celeron-Processor-633-MHz-128K-Cache-66-MHz-FSB
for a PPGA370 socket
It is without wishing in any way to suggest you cannot make use of the computer - of vintage and the whole system will make it impossible to carry out any meaningful upgrade

As I said even if you could find a CPU that would fit PPGA370 the improvement would be unoticeable
Well then, can I run WindowsME on a
HP Pavilion a867c Desktop, 2GB RAM, P4 3.40GHz

I only have drivers for ME.
Only function of machine is to run a very expensive piece of old equipment.
From what I can determine, the HP Pavilion a867c Desktop PC originally came with Windows XP Home Edition SP2.
The Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker on yours will confirm which Windows version it originally came with.
Because of its age(more than 10 years old), HP no longer has a support and driver downloads site for it.
