I got this message last week before anything could load. A little message box said "Please Wait. Windows is Updating Hardware Database" and 0% completed flickered on and off forever. I did not add any hardware. I used Norton's GoBack several times with no luck, but finally after reverting to the hard drive as it was about a week prior, I was able to boot up. I thought maybe it was a virus since I also was getting Memory warnings, altho I knew I had plenty of memory.
Today, I attempted to boot up, and Lo and Behold! the damn message appeared again and wouldn't let me load. When I get the Task Manager and click to end that task, the task ended but the cursor wouldn't budge and everything was frozen. (This happened last week too.) So, back to GoBack, and again I tried several prior dates and then decided to revert to the future from my last reversion, and reverted to the time I booted up today. (I actually did not boot up, but GoBack said I did.) And lo and behold I was able to boot up.
Can anyone explain this and prevent my computer from doing it again?
There is a similar thread, but in that thread the poster added hardware. I added nothing.
