The c:\program files\common folder opens automatically every time windows starts. This is probably the result of an entry in the registry somewhere, but I have no idea where. Nor do I know how to turn it off. Please help!

Try running MSCONFIG, click on the Startup tab, and see if it is located there.

Otherwise:

Start Regedit
Go to both:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
See if it is there as well.
