I haven't used my desktop for awhile, and it isn't very old around 2007-2008 it was bought. It has Windows Vista and when I turn it on the computer says:

Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Volume label is OS

Then it says something about disk inconsistencies and the option to cancel the Chkdsk.
HOWEVER, when it says press "any key" I press around my keyboard and nothing happens and it still goes into Chkdsk.
Additionally when I try to let Chkdsk just finish itself, it says "Unspecified error," and it wont complete.

It usually gets stuck around stage 1 of 3 at around 5%

Note: My keyboard is wireless.

Please help, there are tons of important files on this computer that need!

Sorry, I'm a complete novice. How do you run command prompt during startup? I currently am running a startup repair thing. I pressed f12 and there was an option. I'll see if that works before any other action.
